Dunscar Residents Association

Our Village - Our Voice - Our Future

Our Mission

The Dunscar Residents Association exists to protect the character, heritage, and green spaces of Bromley Cross and the surrounding area. Our mission is to:

  • Defend our community from inappropriate development that threatens our environment, wellbeing, and way of life.

  • Preserve greenbelt and open spaces for current and future generations.

  • Give residents a collective voice in planning decisions and local issues.

  • Strengthen community ties by standing together on matters that affect us all.

  • We believe Bromley Cross should remain a place where families thrive, nature is respected, and community comes first.

Current Projects

Save Tongfields

On 25th September we were notified that Oakmere Homes is pushing an Outline Planning Application to build around 100 new homes on the Land at Tongfields, Bromley Cross.

If approved, this development would:

  • Replace our open green fields with housing — erasing public space for walking, nature, and community use

  • Strain local infrastructure: more traffic on already busy roads, additional pressure on schools, healthcare, and utilities

  • Threaten local wildlife, reduce biodiversity, and destroy the habitat this land currently supports

  • Damage the area which is rural in character — bordered by woodland, conservation areas, and listed buildings. Development here would irreversibly urbanise a space that is currently open countryside within the village

Oakmere is currently collecting “community feedback” before submitting their planning application. This is why we must act now.

Our Roadmap

We’re taking action step by step to protect Tongfields and our wider community in the following ways:

  1. Community Evidence – Collect stories, signatures, and proof that Tongfields is used daily by residents, families, and dog walkers.

  2. Asset of Community Value (ACV) – Secure ACV status to strengthen protection and give the community a say in its future.

  3. Village Green Application – Gather evidence of long-term public use to pursue Village Green status under the Commons Act.

  4. Planning Objections – When Oakmere submits its planning application, we will submit formal objections highlighting traffic, infrastructure, greenbelt loss, and heritage risks.

  5. Political & Media Pressure – Raising the profile of our campaign with councillors, MPs, and local press to ensure the community voice is heard loud and clear.

  6. Alternative Vision – Promote a positive community-led vision for the land that benefits people and nature, not developers.

Together, this roadmap gives us the best chance of stopping Oakmere’s plans and protecting our village for generations to come.
